The Bristol Sound & Vision show is always a highlight of the Hi-Fi and calendar and this year was no different. Arcam chose to use the event as a launch platform for a number of new products in both the DiVA and FMJ ranges. These were on view in both the London Suite and a dedicated adjacent demonstration room. Busy from start to finish of the show, large numbers of people were able to experience both the home cinema displays and the hi-fi setups.
In the DiVA product line the DV89 was given its first UK showing. This model takes the highly regarded DV88 Plus platform and adds DVD-A audio capability and Dolby Digital as well as DTS decoding to the feature list. Also in the DiVA range, a 'sneak preview' was given to a new integrated amplifier, the A80, which aims to bring the Wide Band Current Feedback technology and extended user menus from the A85 and A32 amplifiers to a more affordable level.
In the FMJ range there was news of several forthcoming products. The DV27A adds DVD-Audio facilities to the current DV27 model. The stunning music playback available from this new format was demonstrated against the new state-of-the-art Arcam CD player, the CD33. The CD33 uses 24/192 upsampling technology and no fewer than 4 DACs per channel to deliver simply breathtaking music performance from CD discs. The results of these comparisons fascinated all who heard them and the consensus was that both new products represnted wonderful ways to enjoy your favorite music.
To complete the system, a prototype FMJ pre-amplifier was used, the C30. Using the user friendly menu structure and advanced menu structure of the A32 integrated amplifier, the C30 also features balanced output stages, a very special Low Flux Density power supply and MM/MC phono input.
CES Show, Las Vegas, USA-January 2003
Arcam premiered a number of forthcoming products at the annual CES show in Las Vegas. Catching the imagination of many audiophiles was the display of stereo and multichannel DVD-Audio from a prototype DV89 player. When it is launched later this year, the DV89 will offer all the features of the DV88 Plus but will also include full decoding for DVD-Audio discs. Also shown were a number of new models to be included in the FMJ range, including an RDS tuner, a two channel pre-amp and monobloc power amplifier.
Many exhibitors rooms were also equipped with Arcam products, displaying a number of interesting ideas on how they can provide superior sound to enrich you life. From simple low cost stereo set-ups for under £1000 to a fully rack-mounted, custom-installed 8 channel THX home cinema system, something for all budgets to enjoy could be seen on display.
