Bonjour,

BARCO UK will be launching their new CINE range of projectors in January 2000;
prices are yet to be confirmed.
The range consists of the Cine5, Cine6, Cine7, Cine8, Cine 9 (possibly) and
Cine12.
I won't detail the whole range, as it will most likely be the Cine5, 6 & 7
models that are of interest to readers of this newsgroup. However, I will say
that the Cine8 is based on the Barco 808 data/graphics grade range of 8" CRT
projectors that start at around ?12000 +VAT. The Cine12 is based on the 812
graphics grade range of 12" CRT projectors that are massive and fully
configured weigh in at around ?70000.
The whole range have been improved and tweaked in many ways, with the aim of
making them more user friendly and acceptable for home video use as well as PC
compatibility. They have dark indigo coloured chassis and a choice of either
matte beige or metallic silver covers.
The most compact and 'living room friendly' of the range are the Cine5 & 6
models.
Cine5 - Essentially a Barco BV508 7" CRT projector in a re-styled casing,
improved power supply, new graphical user interface and remote control. This
is a fan free video only projector. The Barco IRIS3 automatic convergence and
geometry calibration system is available as a factory fitted option. 1000
lumens/140 ANSI lumens contrast ratio >1000:1
Cine6 - This is a new model based on the Cine5. It is still fan free, has
better power regulation and is progressive scan only. Its horizontal scan
range is 28 to 38Khz and therefore can only be used with a line-doubled source
or if connected to a standard interlaced video source will switch in its built
in Barco line doubler (called the LiDO). The Barco IRIS3 automatic convergence
and geometry calibration system is available as a factory fitted option.
1000 lumens/140 ANSI lumens contrast ratio >1000:1
The LiDO is an excellent line-doubler compatible with NTSC and PAL video.
Apparently it has been improved with the addition of 'film mode detection'
which means it can detect the 3:2 field sequence of film sourced NTSC video
and
remove redundant fields prior to line doubling (de-interlacing). This feature
will considerably reduce the occurrence of objectionable artifacts in the
progressive scanned output. (This 'film mode detection' feature has yet to be
confirmed, if it turns out not to be a feature of the LiDO then I will post an
amendment).
Finally for the Cine6, it also has PC compatibility for VGA and SVGA
progressive scan inputs. However, it can only scan at a vertical rate of
either 50 or 60Hz and will therefore only permit either 640x480 or 800x600 at
50 or 60Hz progressive. So, unfortunately it will not allow for those who
have
PC based DVD systems and wish to output their NTSC DVDs at 800x600 @72Hz
(frame
tripling) or 720x480 @72Hz. It's 60Hz only for NTSC and 50Hz for PAL.
(Although a future upgrade may be possible to accomodate 720x480@72Hz).
Cine7 - This is based on the current Barco Data708 7" CRT projector model.
This is an excellent data grade projector w
