I think recent Marantz players are rebranded Philips units. Most (all?) of their product line is rebrands, I believe
Marantz is a confusing company. Some time ago Philips owned the Marantz brand, certainly in America and I think much of the rest of the world, hence most of their kit basically being Philips. I think a deal was struck so that Marantz Japan would buy the brand from Philips a few years back, and since then they have merged with Denon (whether or not Philips still has a shareholding or other interest I don't know.)
Certainly when I worked for Philips (a long time ago) most Marantz kit was functionally identical to equivalent Philips kit, just in a shinier box and with a higher price tag. Hi-fi review magazines (ever the mugs) would still give the Marantz kit a higher review score than an identical item with a Philips logo just because they are total suckers for "more expensive means it must sound better." This isn't to say the Marantz kit was bad - it was more a testament to the fact that certainly in those days Philips made some damn good equipment.
Back then it was a bit like Volkswagen/Audi - same company, two brands for different market segments/aspirations, but actually you can buy a damn good car from both
