If you want something for HD sources, then the VP30 should not be your choice, since it's only doing simple BOB deinterlacing for 1080i content. Here are your choices:

(1) Lumagen HDP
+ good calibration functionality
+ HD inverse telecine for film content
+ HD motion adaptive deinterlacing for video content
+ custom timings
+ no fan
- no diagonal edge processing for video content
- no anime cadance detection
- average bad edit handling
- no random noise reduction
- no mpeg noise reduction

(2) Vantage-HD
+ HD inverse telecine for film content
+ HD motion adaptive deinterlacing for video content
+ diagonal edge processing for video content (both SD and HD)
+ anime cadence detection
+ good bad edit handling
+ random noise reduction
+ mpeg noise reduction (SD only)
- mpeg noise reduction reduces diagonal edge processing quality
- fan, loud in some units
- no custom timings
- no calibration features as of yet (may come with a later firmware)

(3) Crystalio II
+ good calibration functionality
+ HD inverse telecine for film content
+ HD motion adaptive deinterlacing for video content
+ diagonal edge processing for video content (both SD and HD)
+ very good bad edit handling
+ random noise reduction
+ no fan
+ custom timings
+ feature king
+ best OSD
- no anime cadence detection
- no mpeg noise reduction

(4) DVDO VP50
+ HD inverse telecine for film content
+ HD motion adaptive deinterlacing for video content
+ diagonal edge processing for video content (both SD and HD)
+ very good bad edit handling
+ no anime cadence detection
+ custom timings
? calibration functionality unknown
? random noise reduction unknown
? fan unknown
? mpeg noise reduction unknown
- availability no earlier than October 2006

In terms of pure image quality it's hard to say which one is the best. In terms of deinterlacing the VP50 might win, closely followed by Vantage-HD and Crystalio II. Lumagen is very probably last here (at least in video deinterlacing). In terms of scaling it's very hard to say who is best. Some like Lumagen scaling best. Others prefer the VP30 scaling. Some people say the Crystalio II has the best scaling ever. The Vantage-HD might be last here. But there were no real reliable comparison reviews between all these mentioned VPs yet. So I can only tell you what my impression is from 1 year of reading. Personally, I've still not decided whether to go Crystalio II or whether I should wait for VP50.
