If your Integra DTR 70.4 only supports Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) but not Dolby Atmos decoding, upgrading to a Netflix Premium (or other streaming) subscription won’t significantly improve your sound quality. Here’s why:
Netflix Atmos is delivered via DD+ (Lossy) – Even with a Premium subscription, Netflix sends Atmos as a DD+ 5.1 base layer with Atmos metadata. Since your AVR doesn’t support Atmos decoding, it will ignore the metadata and play only the core DD+ 5.1 audio.
No TrueHD Support on Streaming – Services like Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV+ never use Dolby TrueHD (lossless Atmos). Only Blu-rays or local files provide TrueHD, which your amp can decode—but streaming won’t.
Same DD+ Quality – The standard (non-Premium) Netflix tier already delivers DD+ 5.1, which is identical in bitrate to the DD+ base layer in Atmos streams.
