https://www.amazonforum.com/s/question/ ... processing"I just upgraded from the non-4k 2nd-gen ("basic") Fire Stick to the 4K Fire Stick and experienced this same problem. The "Exit Netflix" method didn't work for me (I've found no way to get to "DPL Mv" on the receiver when streaming stereo content with the 4K Fire Stick set to "Best Available"), but the "Always Dolby Digital" setting did, with the caveat (of course) that this setting downgrades Dolby Digital Plus ("DD+") to Dolby Digital ("DD") on streaming apps that support the higher standard, such as Netflix, Prime, and Disney+.
It should be noted that the audio sub-settings are different on the different Fire Stick models; the basic Fire Stick has a "Dolby Digital Output" sub-setting that can be set to (1) "Dolby Digital Plus Automatic," (2) "Dolby Digital Plus OFF," (3) "Dolby Digital Plus over HDMI" or (4) "Dolby Digital over HDMI." On the 4K Fire Stick, the sub-setting under "Audio" is "Surround Sound" which also has four settings: (1) "Best Available," (2) "Stereo," (3) "Always Dolby Digital Plus" and (4) "Always Dolby Digital." In each case, (1) is the default setting.
What's happening here is that the default "Best Available" setting on the 4K Fire Stick behaves differently from the default "Automatic" setting on the basic Fire Stick, and there's no setting on the 4K Fire Stick that matches what the "Automatic" setting on the basic Fire Stick does, viz., send Dolby Digital Plus from apps that support it (with the notable exception of Disney+) and PCM 2.0 from those that don't. So, the 4K Fire Stick user can either (1) sacrifice surround-sound processing (such as ProLogic II) on stereo content, (2) downgrade DD+ content to DD, or (3) keep changing the setting depending on the app and content being watched next.
So far I'm willing to settle for (2) since I have a 5.1 receiver/speaker setup and not 7.1 or more. I've raised this issue with Amazon but from this thread it's clear that this has been known for at least two years, so I'm not anticipating a fix. Whether it's possible to create a setting on the 4K Fire Stick that mimics the "Automatic" setting on the basic Fire Stick, I don't know. "
